EndNote: Cite While You Write

Adding Citations with EndNote

  • You can easily format your citations in Word using EndNote. Go to the EndNote X9 tab in Word, and click Insert Citation.
  • If you need to edit or delete the citation, click Edit & Manage Citations next to Insert Citation. (EndNote will not allow you to just delete a citation using the delete key.)
  • Just need a bibliography? In EndNote desktop, make sure your chosen citation style is selected in the dropdown menu. Highlight your references, right click, and then select Copy Formatted. You can now paste a fully formatted bibliography into a Word document, email, or wherever you need it to go.
  • Have a Mac? See the EndNote YouTube channel for Mac videos.
