Using My NCBI: Home

This guide focuses on the use of My NCBI in regard to PubMed.

What is My NCBI?

My NCBI is a tool created by the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the National Library of Medicine.

It allows you to:

  • Save searches, bibliographies, and results from many databases, including PubMed
  • Run automatic searches and have results e-mailed to you
  • Edit filters to manage search results
  • Customize PubMed

Creating an Account

  1. Go to PubMed
  2. Click on the Sign in to NCBI link at the top right corner of the page
  3. There are three ways to proceed:
    • Sign in with an exisiting account, such as Google
    • Register for an NCBI account
    • Click on See more 3rd party sign in options, select Pitt, and then sign in

Accessing My NCBI

On campus:

  1. Go to PubMed (make sure to use this link to access through Pitt)
  2. Click on the Sign in to NCBI link at the top right corner of the page and sign in

Off campus:

  1. Go to PubMed (make sure to use this link to access through Pitt)
  2. Sign in with your Pitt username and password through Pitt Passport
  3. Click on the Sign in to NCBI link at the top right corner of the page and sign in
