Wikipedia in the Health Sciences

This guide covers what Wikipedia is, what its core and biomedical content policies are, how to use it responsibly as an information resource, and how to contribute to it.

What is Wikipedia?

Wikipedia is a free multilingual online encyclopedia collaboratively created and maintained by volunteer editors.

Its combined editions comprise more than 55 million articles, with around 6.5 million of those in English. The share of Wikipedia articles in English is steadily decreasing as articles in the 270+ other languages represented on Wikipedia become more numerous. Thus, Wikipedia's value as a multilingual resource is increasing over time.

Wikipedia articles are created, written, edited, and improved by editors who donate their time and expertise to improve the encyclopedia's information. Anyone can edit an article at any time, including you!
