What opportunities for editing are there?

If you want to edit independently, there are a number of lists of underdeveloped articles available that can be a good starting point. For example:

If you want to edit with others, be on the lookout for Edit-A-Thons, or organized events where people come together to edit and improve Wikipedia pages, usually about a certain topic.

  • #CiteNLM is an edit-a-thon hosted by the Network of the National Library of Medicine that occurs each year in the spring and fall.
  • You may also find edit-a-thons hosted by PCORI or other health-focused organizations.

If you want to learn more and be guided by experienced editors right here at HSLS, register for our next offering of Wikipedia for Health Professionals. This class is typically offered once each in the spring and fall. You can also contact me at kelsey.cowles@pitt.edu to request a special tailored session for your classroom or student organization.
