Core outcomes sets

What are core outcomes?

When conducting a trial, how do you know which outcomes are most appropriate for measurement? One way is to check for a core outcome set on your topic.

"A core outcome set (COS) is an agreed standardised set of outcomes that should be measured and reported, as a minimum, in all clinical trials in specific areas of health or health care." (COMET Initiative)

(core NEAR/2 outcome) OR (core NEAR/2 outcomes) OR (outcome NEAR/2 set) OR (outcome NEAR/2 sets)

Example

This is a VERY broad search, resulting in ~325 records for core outcomes related to maternal (health) or pregnancy. Copy and paste into the Embase search box.

((core NEAR/2 outcome) OR (core NEAR/2 outcomes) OR (outcome NEAR/2 set) OR (outcome NEAR/2 sets)) AND (maternity OR pregnancy)

Core outcomes search in the title field only

This searches only the title field and will retrieve fewer results than the above searchbut they tend to be highly pertinent if you are interested in only those articles that discuss the use or development of core outcome sets.
