Find Full Text Settings in EndNote20

Using Find Full Text in EndNote 20 & 21

You can ask EndNote to try to find PDFs for you and attach them to the references in your library. Follow the steps below or use our Find Full Text Tutorial.

To get the most out of Find Full Text, set the following preferences. (You will only need to do this once.)

  1. In EndNote, select Edit, then Preferences. Click on Find Full Text. Check the boxes next to all of the items:
    • Web of Science Full Text Links
    • DOI (Digital Object Identifier)
    • PubMed LinkOut
    • OpenURL
  2.  In the OpenURL Path window, enter: https://pitt.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/uresolver/01PITT_INST/openurl?
  3. Complete the Authenticate with section by entering: https://pitt.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.hsls.pitt.edu
    • This is the HSLS EZProxy URL. You will be prompted to enter your Pitt account ID and password as needed to complete authentication when off campus.
  4. Click on Apply, then on OK.

Once you have your preferences set, use Find Full text.

  1. Highlight the record(s) you want PDFs for, and then select Find Full Text in the References menu. (Alternatively, click on the icon of a magnifying glass on top of a piece of paper.)
  2. EndNote will keep a running tally of PDFs and URLs found. It will also let you know what it can't find. There will usually be some PDFs you need to find manually.
